Montserrat - Delta de l'Ebre

Communication, Mapping, Storytelling

Year2023ByBerta Cruells, Berta Ferrer, Alba Martínez, Judit Navarro, Claudia Rodenas and Núria Tió

Montserrat – Delta de l'Ebre explores how a message could travel across Catalonia without relying on modern digital communication. The challenge was to transmit the sentence «We will arrive at 8 p.m. for dinner» from Montserrat to the Delta de l'Ebre, ensuring it arrived in time for the meal to be prepared.

To achieve this, the project combined laser pointers and Morse code, transforming a simple communication need into a technical and collaborative experiment. The team mapped the 155-kilometre route, analysed the terrain and selected five elevated relay points from which the message could be received and retransmitted.

The final outcome was presented as a photobook combining photography, maps, diagrams and technical documentation. Each section reveals a different stage of the process, from route planning and relay-point selection to the final transmission. By merging visual storytelling with technical research, the project reimagines communication as a physical journey shaped by creativity, precision, landscape and collective effort.
